Our story, our mission
Welcome to the heart of 'Helping Grandad Remember'. Here, I share the personal journey that led to the creation of my special book, and my deep commitment to supporting families facing dementia.

A daughter's insights, a mother's inspiration
The journey of 'Helping Grandad Remember' began with a profoundly personal experience. My youngest daughter, during her Nurse's training, worked on a Dementia ward. Each evening, she'd return home with stories – a mix of heart-warming connections and the challenges of communication. She formed special bonds with patients, finding unique ways to help them, but also witnessed the profound difficulties the disease presented. We often discussed how much harder this must be for young people, watching their beloved grandparents contend with dementia. It was then we realised the scarcity of resources available to help children understand and communicate in such situations, and the seed for my book was planted.

From insight to inspiration
My daughter's experiences on the Dementia ward moved me deeply. Witnessing her empathy and the challenges she faced, and seeing the impact on families, ignited a strong desire within me to contribute. I wanted to create something tangible, a supportive tool that could bridge the communication gap for children and their grandparents. This passion led to the birth of our children’s book, designed to offer young ones a gentle and possible way of connecting and communicating with their grandparents or other loved ones living with dementia. Both my daughter's support in creating the images for my book, and their continued support has been amazing and kept me driven to finish it.

Connecting generations, rekindling memories
Through 'Helping Grandad Remember', my greatest hope is to provide unique support for families. While there are many detailed resources available, my book offers a different approach – a simple, heartwarming way to help reconnect children with their grandparents (or anyone living with dementia). I aspire for this book to bring joy not just to the children, but also to the dementia sufferer, by gently encouraging conversations about their past, potentially rekindling cherished memories that may otherwise be hard to recall. It's about fostering connection, understanding, and love across generations.
"Every memory shared is a precious gift."
